KEEPING YOUR WORD

Call the result. Then settle the tab.

A finished bet and a fulfilled promise are different things. Here is how results and tabs fit together in Conjectal.

The shot lands. The group erupts. Someone owes someone coffee. That feels like one moment, but there are two separate things to keep track of: what happened, and whether the resulting promise has been fulfilled.

Calling a result records the outcome.

The judge calls the bet. Conjectal uses the recorded backing and the result to work out any resulting tabs. The bet’s story now has an ending, and the group can see the outcome.

Calling the bet does not mean someone has already made the coffee, done the push-ups or completed whatever was promised. A called bet can still have open tabs.

A tab is an IOU between people.

A tab records who owes what to whom, in the unit chosen for that bet. It is not money held by Conjectal. The app keeps the record; the people involved do the following through.

Keep the distinction simple when talking about it: call the result of a bet, settle a tab when the IOU has been fulfilled. It avoids making an unfinished promise look finished just because the outcome is known.

Transparency is the point.

Friend groups do not need a mysterious black box deciding who is right. They need clear rules, visible responsibility and a record they can understand. Conjectal does not supply a dispute tribunal or enforce an IOU.

Keep your promises small enough to honour, talk to each other when something is unclear, and mark things settled when they really are. The receipt is useful. The friendship is the reason for it.
